For interested visitors, nuremberg municipal museums have developed a new offer and have opened their "treasure chests" since July 2007. An outstanding exhibit is showcased and explained in greater detail once every month, in one of the municipal museums.
The exhibits selected as "showpiece of the month" are either particularly precious or have a very interesting reception history. Some of these objects are usually kept in the stores for safety or conservation reasons, and are being shown to the public for the first time. Others have already been exhibited in the respective museum's permanent exhibition, but were - unjustly - not given enough exposure.
A special service is offered in connection with this monthly show:
twice during the exhibition period - usually once during the week and once at the weekend - the respective museum's director or curator will provide exciting insights into the importance and history of the selected "showpiece" and on its context in the collection, in a free guided tour lasting about 30 minutes. This guided tour will be in German only.
