Starting with a private collection of 5,000 games, the German Games Archive after 25 years of collecting now comprises around 30,000 board and table games, with about 20,000 titles recorded in a data base.
The collection starts in the late 1940s and is an almost complete documentation of the games developed until today, growing every year. Around 700 new games published every year, are all comprehensively recorded in the data base, and around 300 to 400 games are incorporated in the collection. All games are categorised according to a specially developed thematic classification which is mirrored both in the data base and on the archive shelves.
In addition to the collection focus - board and table games -, the Archive also comprises a large collection of card games, dice and other random number generators, as well as many large-scale games.
